A series of serendipitous events re-charted the course of Emeco, a company founded in 1944 to build chairs for submarines in WWII. The story of re-directing this historic manufacturer from a one chair/ one customer company to a world recognized leader in design is a classic American riches-to rags-to-riches tale, featuring Philippe Starck, the Museum of Modern Art and the 1006 Navy chair, perhaps the most recognized American furniture icon of the 20th Century. This year, look forward to a chair designed by Starck and made of a new 100% pre consumer “liquid wood”.
