Stuart Chase is the creative talent behind Modern Organic Furniture. Influenced and taught by master woodworkers, he has developed his extraordinary skill and experience in woodworking, and has turned it into a passion for designing and building furniture.
Stuart believes furniture should balance form and function, and executes his work as such. He has studied various artistic mediums ranging from fashion, painting and sculpture to building architecture and modern design in an effort to cross blend forms, shapes and colors into his wood working. The Modern Organic form is generated through the inspiration Stuart finds within many artistic forms in life and nature.
Reclaimed tree roots and decayed or deceased maple or other trees make up the organic elements of his woodwork. These multi-dimensional pieces are extremely rare; therefore organizing and blending the pieces with modern forms presents a remarkable challenge.
The base structures for the modern and linear portions of the pieces are made up of solid wenge, zebrawood, ebony, acrylic and aluminum. Other types of woods and materials are mixed into the designs when the piece calls for it. Finishes are oil based for maximal durability and active use of each piece. Colored acrylic accents are used at times to fill voids and add sparkle to the piece. Carving introduces an additional element that provides an area of transition between modern and organic. See what happens when organic shapes and modern materials coalesce.
