About

Pursuing new tie-dyeing possibilities, SHIBORIAN applies traditional techniques to leather as well as cloth. Inspired by Inden, a technique for dyeing deerskin imported to Japan from India in the 17th Century, and the Kyo-kanoko-shibori method for creating beautifully patterned cloth used for centuries in Kyoto, SHIBORIAN has achieved the expression of beautiful three-dimensional designs on leather or cloth. However, the special, sophisticated nature of the techniques makes these designs the exclusive domain of our Hideki Tomiyama, who has received two patents for his work in Japan, with patents pending overseas.
